Attitude of Gratitude

Develop an Attitude of Gratitude

2016 was a very profound year in my life! In fact, the most profound! In January of 2016, my son Christopher became a victim of suicide. In April of 2016 my brother Michael became a victim of suicide. I was encouraged to further develop and strengthen my personal ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ as part of my ongoing recovery from the trauma of my family deaths. This is what I learned!

Attitude of Gratitude | Hughie Bagnell | www.HughieBagnell.net The foundation to all growth is being grateful for everything in your life, even if it is not ideal right now! “Gratitude is a high-energy emotion.” When you can feel grateful for the things in your life and view them as opportunities to grow and learn, you develop the necessary skills to bring you closer to your ideal self. In doing so, you become very powerful!

“Develop an attitude of gratitude and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.”  ~ Brian Tracy

Gratitude will shift your mindset.

Attitude of Gratitude | Hughie Bagnell | www.HughieBagnell.netFor something to change in your life, one of two things has to happen: your life changes or you do.  Waiting for life to change is a pretty passive solution. Open your eyes to an attitude of gratitude and all of a sudden things start to fall into place. Be proactive, not passive and by switching your mindset you will see life change!

How? Start by keeping a daily list of events that you are grateful for each night. It is usually called a ‘Gratitude Journal’!

Gratitude creates solutions and is contagious.

Adopting an attitude of gratitude takes you out of a problem and into a solution. Developing a best-outcomes mindset is a skill we need in life and our decision-making. It allows us to see solutions where others only see obstacles.

How? Watch your words. What you say is usually how you act, so be aware of complaining and replace whines with positive words. Be the change and watch as the world changes around you and your attitude of gratitude.

Be a Giver and Meditate!

Negative feelings, many times can be caused by focusing on the perceived negative aspects of your life. This feeling is instantly shifted by giving unconditionally to others.

Meditation is one of the most effective ways to increase your positivity! The practice and skill of meditation expands your awareness and allows for a very clear connection between mind, body and soul!

Remember these keys!
  • What you focus on you find
  • What you focus on seems real
  • What you focus on grows
  • What you focus on you ultimately become

Gratitude nurtures within us a positive, joy-filled flow of life which does give birth to inner peace and fulfillment!

Be curious about what you naturally focus on! Is it positive or negative?

What is Friendship? | Hughie Bagnell

We Need Friends to Win!

We need friends to win. We need friends to speak well of us to others. We need friends to stand by us and to believe in us. We need friends to point out our shortcomings and show us how we can improve ourselves. We need friends to inspire us. We need friends who use their influence to help us succeed.

The best way to have friends is to be one. “If you see a friend slipping away from you,” wrote David Grayson, “stop whatever you are doing and bring him/her back, for friendship is one thing you cannot afford to be without.”

Hughie Bagnell | www.HughieBagnell.netAristotle described philia as loyalty to friends, family, and community, requiring virtue, equality, and familiarity. Philia, symbolizes brotherly love; like Philadelphia, “the City of Brotherly Love”, the love between true friends.

True friends are trustworthy, maintaining all confidences shared with unimpeachable honor and self-respect, knowing that gossip separates the best of friends. True friends appreciate one another, encouraging, serving, and believing in one another’s talents and gifts. True friends celebrate one another’s success, proud of each other’s accomplishments without a hint of envy.

Barbara Colorosa, in her parenting classic, states; “Kids are Worth it!” I believe, as well; “Friends are Worth it!”
