In Life, ‘Run With Endurance’

“The Real Voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” ~ Proust

“I believe that God made me for a purpose. . . . But he also made me fast. And when I run, I feel his pleasure. You were right; it is Fun! But that isn’t all. . . .” ~ Eric Little, Chariots of Fire

I find that if you want to use the story to deal with the ups and downs of life that come at you, it helps if you listen with your heart and head, and fill in the story with your own experience to see what is true for you!

Run To Win

1 Corinthians 9:24 – The Need for Self-Discipline –24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Train With Diligence

1 Corinthians 9:25-27 – 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Run With Patience – Let Go of Every Burden

Hebrews 12:1 –  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Follow Good Example

Hebrews 12:2 – Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

“You must be a good follower before you become a good leader.”

Eat Nutritious Food

Hebrews 5:12-14 “First principles” are fundamental, rudimentary, elementary things. There are things with which we begin, but we have to get off the dime, as it were. Something must be done in order to increase, because if we remain at the starting point, we prove to be not very usable. How much good to human society is a baby? Even so, a newborn Christian is not a great deal of use to. This situation is remedied by growth.

From unskilled to skilled, from oblivious and uncomprehending to discerning—a process happens?

Drink Water Freely – Drink Plenty of Water

Revelation 22:17 – 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Compete According to the Rules

2 Timothy 2:5 – Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.

Be Confident of Winning Your Race and Gaining the Prize

Romans 15:13 – 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It’s not the story; it’s what you take away from it that makes it so powerful. That’s up to you, of course!

The Olympic ideal of citius, altius, fortius (swifter, higher, stronger) is addressed to everyone, not only runners. It is, ultimately a question of growth, of being more, of being the best version of you. Running however, is as much mental, spiritual, and intellectual as it is physical!

“I give faith a fighting chance and I still feel small when I stand beside the ocean.”
