How Do You Spend Your Time?
A frequent statement that I hear from some of my friends and team mates is that they “just don’t have enough time” to do the things that I encourage to help make them successful in business, network or internet marketing. When I remind them that they need only 7 to 10 hours a week (on average) to generate a residual income, some reply that they don’t have that much time.
When I hear this, sometimes I feel like they’re saying they just are not organized enough to get the most from the time they have available. The old adage, “if you want something done, give it to a busy person,” would not apply to them. They are busy, but perhaps in a disorganized and unproductive way!
To test how well organized you are and how you spend your time, take out a piece of paper and write down the average amount of sleep you get each day, the average amount of time you spend preparing and/or eating meals, commuting to work, working, getting ready to leave your house or apartment, watching television (be honest), in leisure activities, and finally, doing any other activity. It wouldn’t surprise me if your total exceeds 24 hours! That would tell me that your days are busy, but not necessarily well-organized and productive.
To gain control of your time, you must closely examine each one of the activities listed previously and determine where you might reasonably cut back or even eliminate one or more of your activities. You might find it necessary to modify some of your long-established habits to accommodate your new home business activities. For example, reducing the amount of time you spend watching television or, perhaps, cutting back on the amount of sleep you get by 30 to 60 minutes a night, might free up the time you need to become a successful home business owner.
It is also helpful to combine activities to make better use of your time. If you want to spend time with your family, for example, and you also want to exercise, then exercise with your family. Get the idea?
